Our inaugural Charlotte Zysman Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Mandel Center for the Humanities at Brandeis is Lori Cole.
Lori Cole received her BA in Literature from Brown University and her MA and PhD in Comparative Literature from New York University. Her research focuses on the construction of transatlantic avant-garde communities in print. She was a 2002-3 Helena Rubinstein Fellow in Critical Studies at the Whitney Independent Study Program and a Joan Tisch Teaching Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art from 2010-2012. Her art criticism, translations, and scholarly writing have appeared in Artforum, PMLA, and The Oxford Critical and Cultural History of Modernist Magazines.
In the Spring 2013 semester, Lori Cole will be teaching an interdisciplinary course entitled “From Broadsheets to Blogs: Reading Magazines Across the Twentieth Century.” This course examines the magazine as a collaborative space for artists and writers internationally, beginning with the rise of print culture in the early 20th century and concluding with the status of the magazine in the digital age.
