Undergraduate Resources and Opportunities

MRSEC Dr Anique OM

Brandeis MRSEC offers two summer undergraduate programs:

1. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) for predominantly non-Brandeis students
2. Summer Materials Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SMURF) for Brandeis students

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
May 28 - August 3, 2018

Brandeis University was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to establish a Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. The research in our center concerns the combination of materials science with biology. We have very strong programs in the physical sciences and the life sciences, which we have combined to study this fascinating area.

Application deadline: February 1, 2018

Summer Materials Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SMURF)
May 28 - August 3, 2018

The MRSEC SMURF program is for Brandeis students doing undergraduate research, sponsored by the Brandeis Materials Research Science and Engineering Center.

This is a highly competitive internal fellowship that includes a $5,000 stipend. By the summer, applicants must be rising Brandeis sophomores, juniors, or seniors. No prior lab experience is required, but a commitment from a Brandeis MRSEC member to serve as a mentor in the summer is required.

Recipients are expected to be available to do full time laboratory research during that period, and must commit to presenting a poster at the final poster session. Recipients also commit to participating in weekly activities (~1-2 hours/week) organized by the MRSEC Director of Education.
