Outreach Highlights 2011

1. Nano-Days activities

Brandeis Scientists with Kids at Acton Museum

Brandeis researchers shared their exciting interdisciplinary research that explores the interface of biology and nanoscale materials science. Visitors did hands-on activities to discover how materials have unexpected properties at the nanoscale. NanoDays is a nationwide festival of education programs with the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) and the National Science Foundation

2. International Collaboration Rwanda

Rwanda students
Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). In summer 2009, Prof. Fraden was a visiting lecturer at KIST, teaching an advanced course on laser physics. KIST offers two tracks in applied physics; materials and renewable energy. During the visit Prof. Fraden and the chair of physics at KIST, Prof. Onyango, signed a MOU between the Brandeis physics dept. and KIST including enrolling KIST students in PhD programs at Brandeis. Currently there is no post-graduate training in science in all of Rwanda. An agreement for exchange of faculty between MRSECs and KIST is being formulated
