Judges break in new Gosman track with Reggie Poyau Memorial Meet

Featured athletes Selig, Norton to run Saturday

The main floor of the Gosman Athletic Center was out of commission for three weeks as a new Mondo track surface was installed over winter break. Featuring shades of navy blue and gray that are used in the recently designed Brandeis Judges logo, the new surface got its first workout on Saturday, Jan. 15, when the indoor track and field teams hosted their annual Reggie Poyau Memorial Track Meet. The meet is named after Brandeis runner Reggie Poyau, who drowned in May 2003 while studying in Senegal.

Among the featured athletes for the Judges were seniors Grayce Selig of Nartberth, Pa., and Paul Norton of Amherst, Mass. Selig has already qualified for her fourth career NCAA championship, having won the mile run at the Dartmouth Relays against a field consisting primarily of Division I runners on Jan. 9. She is the school-record holder in the mile and is a two-time All-American in the distance medley relay indoors and the 1,500-meter run outdoors in 2009-2010. On the men's side, Norton was the 2010 University Athletic Association Runner of the Meet when Brandeis hosted the conference championships. He won the 3,000-meter run and placed second in the 5,000 meters. Norton has guided the men's cross country team to nationals three years in a row, earning All-America honors as a junior and leading them to 16th place in Division III as a senior.
