Women's track members head to NCAA outdoor championships

Grayce Selig, Lucia Capano to represent Judges in three events at Ohio Wesleyan

Two members of the Brandeis University women's track and field team will be headed to the NCAA Division III Outdoor championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, on May 26 through May 28. Seniors Grayce Selig of Narberth, Pa., and Lucia Capano of Manchester, N.H., will represent the Judges in three different events.

Selig will be making her fifth appearance at an NCAA Division III championship and be searching for her fourth, and possibly fifth, All-America honors. Selig has qualified for the championships in the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run. She is ranked eighth in the nation in the 1,500 with a time of 4:30.62, an event in which she will try to better her fourth-place finish from the 2010 NCAA outdoor championships. Selig has also qualified for the first time in the 5,000-meters, currently ranking 15th with a time of 17:13.11. She qualified for nationals in the 5K at the Penn Relays the first time she had ever run the race.

Capano will be competing at nationals for the first time in the triple jump, though this is the third time she has qualified for the event. She enters the meet seeded 19th with a season- and lifetime-best distance of 11.64 meters, achieved at the Brown Springtime Invitational.

Selig will take to the track for the 1,500-meter preliminaries on Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. Capano's triple jump takes place Friday, May 27, at 5:20 p.m. The 1,500 finals are Saturday, May 28, at 2 p.m., while the 5,000-meters is the final individual event at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, followed only by the 4x400-meter relay.
