JustArts lets faculty, staff show another side

Exhibition on display in Dreitzer Gallery through Dec. 7

The biennial JustArts Faculty/Staff Art Exhibition, which gives staff and faculty a chance to showcase their talents to each other and the community, will be on display at the Dreitzer Gallery in the Spingold Theater building through Dec. 7.

Approximately 40 members of the Brandeis community are participating in this year’s show. The artists are invited to offer five pieces for exhibition. While not juried, the entries are then whittled down to fit the available space. Works range from paintings to photographs, sculpture to crafts.

“Staff and faculty really enjoy seeing each other’s work, and every [show], I am wowed by the privilege of being privy to what people think about, how they see things, the places they go,” says Ingrid Schorr, associate director of the Office of the Arts, who founded the event in 2009.

Schorr hopes to expand the program beyond the exhibition to also have staff and faculty teach community workshops, and to offer them professional development grants.

The exhibit is sponsored by the Office of the Arts and the Office of Human Resources.
