Dillon named English Language Program director

Cheryl Dillon

Cheryl Dillon, former Instructional Staff member, was recently appointed program director for Brandeis University’s English Language Program (ELP).

Dillon had an extensive career before her arrival at Brandeis last year, managing her own firm that worked to increase and develop language-based programs in businesses and universities worldwide.

“I hope to exercise my entrepreneurial spirit in this position as well as develop new academic programs as ELP director,” says Dillon. “I do not have plans for any other immediate changes, but I would certainly like to see the program grow and serve as many students on campus as possible.”

Dillon likes learning about her students’ cultures as much as teaching them about American culture and communication skills. She enjoys reading in French and Spanish and has also studied Japanese, Arabic, Italian and German.

Dillon holds a TESL/TEFL certificate, a bachelor’s degree in business law and entrepreneurship from Babson College, and a master’s degree in English literature from Salem State University.

The English Language Program provides individual tutoring for undergraduates, courses for non-native graduate students in both writing and speaking, and the Gateway Scholars Program, which provides a seven-week series of classes on integration of reading, writing and speaking skills.
