International Journal hosting 'Closer Look into North Korea'

The Brandeis International Journal will host “A Closer Look into North Korea: An Expert Panel Discussion” on Wednesday, April 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Rapaporte Treasure Hall. The event is provided in collaboration with the Korean Economic Institute of America

Friedrich Lohr, former German ambassador to North Korea; Dr. Sue Mi Terry, senior research scholar at Columbia University Weatherhead East Asian Institute; and Dr. Nicholas Hamisevicz, director of Research and Academic Affairs at the Korean Institute of America will be the guest speakers.

The experts will speak until 4:30 p.m., followed by a 30-minute question and answer section.

The Brandeis International Journal biannually publishes a magazine of undergraduate writing on international affairs. Each edition has a theme section that focuses on a particularly relevant issue or country.

This semester, the journal had already elected to feature North Korea before recent events that focused international attention on the country.

“With the most recent nuclear test in February, and very scary rhetoric coming out of North Korea, it's a very suspenseful time right now,” says Arielle Shorr ’13. “It's a good time to understand what's really going on.”

Last semester, the theme section focused on the African Union and last spring's focused on China.
