Brandeis welcomes Class of 2020 for new undergraduate student orientation

First-years from around the country and world will flock to Brandeis for the start of their collegiate journeys

Brandeis will formally welcome the Class of 2020 to the university family on Sunday, Aug. 21 for first-year Move-in Day and the start of New Undergraduate Student Orientation.

Hundreds of incoming students will flock to campus from across the country and around the world to begin their collegiate journeys and experience all that Brandeis has to offer.

Administrative staff and over 100 volunteer Orientation Leaders have planned a week’s worth of fun and informative events that are designed to provide the newest Brandeisians and their families the warmest of welcomes as well as a smooth transition into a new and exciting time.

Orientation sessions include educational programs that allow first-years to engage with faculty and staff, learn more about Brandeis’ rich history and connect with campus resources.

Sunday, Aug. 21 

  • Welcome Fair for New Students and Families (10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Usdan Student Center) – Once you arrive on campus, stop by the Usdan Student Center to learn about a number of helpful resources on campus as well some exciting programs, activities and organizations that will enrich your time at Brandeis.
  • Convocation: Brandeis Beginnings (4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Chapels Field) – Before parting ways with your family and getting started on your Brandeis journey, hear some words of advice from Orientation Leaders and Brandeis administrative staff on what to expect about the exciting road before you.
  • Shine Your Light (8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rose Art Museum, Light of Reason) – Gather together as the Class of 2020 for a powerful moment beneath one of Brandeis’ most iconic art installations.

Monday, Aug. 22

  • This is Our House (7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Spingold Theater) – Join Dean of Students Jamele Adams and celebrate all that is Brandeis, from the energetic aura that floods every the campus to the entire community’s commitment to social justice.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

  • Speak About It (2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Spingold Theater) – Learn about consent, sexual health resources and reporting sexual assault with the help of a performance by “Speak about It.”
  • Blue and White Rally (8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center) – Show your Brandeis spirit and Brandeis Judges pride and compete against your peers in a series of fun athletic contests and games).
  • Wild Wild West (9:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center) – Get together and mingle with your fellow first-year students for music and dancing that’s straight out of an old West town.

Wednesday Aug. 24

  • New Student Forum (8:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Spingold Theater) – Meet with your fellow first-years and orientation leaders to discuss acclaimed author Margaret Atwood’s book Oryx and Crake.
