The Brandeis University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa honor society has announced the election of 89 new members.

“The new inductees represent remarkable achievement inside and outside the classroom,” said Alice Kelikian, associate professor of history and president of the Brandeis Phi Beta Kappa Chapter. “It is a great privilege to welcome them to Phi Beta Kappa as a recognition of their exemplary work in pursuit of a well-rounded liberal arts education.”

Founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honor society in the country. Selection for membership is based on the quality of the candidates’ academic record, the breadth of their scholarly interests beyond their concentration, and the judgments of the faculty and senior administrators concerning the intellectual achievements and character of the students.

Of the new members, 81 come from the class of 2019 and 8 come from the class of 2020. The new members will be recognized in a ceremony during Commencement weekend.
