Current Intern: Grace Leung (Member since 2007 summer)

Grace, what brings you to Brandeis OTL?

Well, I am interested in biotechnology commercialization and have always wanted to use my scientific training in innovative business. My internship at the Office of Technology Licensing gives me the opportunity to gain working experience in technology transfer and exposure to intellectual property law. Brandeis OTL is such a collegial environment which definitely is a good place to learn new things.

What is your background?

I graduated from Tufts University Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences in 2006 with a Ph.D. in molecular biology and microbiology.

Working at the OTL must be very different from doing research in the lab, right?

Yes and no. On one hand, it is obviously a new experience to work in the OTL. On the other hand, I get to see and learn cutting-edge scientific innovations every day, and to be able to understand such a wide range of scientific discipline is extremely intellectual-stimulating.

What have you done so far at the OTL?

Well, I have spent some time writing non-confidential descriptions of Brandeis inventions, which you may read from here. Also, I have done some market research to identify potential licensees for Brandeis technologies. In addition, I have been studying for the Patent bar exam in order to learn more about intellectual property law. Last but not least, I am working on updating the entire Brandeis OTL website.

Em...., does it mean that you wrote these questions?

Yes, of course! What do you think?
