Meet the 2011 CORE Committee

Orientation Core Committee 2011

Rachel Nelson, Coordinator

Rachel is a sophomore majoring in Business and Psychology with a minor in Journalism. Though slightly indecisive, she knows for sure that she does love Brandeis. Coming from Tampa, FL, she appreciates the warm weather but has to be careful as she burns quite easily. Besides being Coordinator of Orientation, Rachel works in the Office of Admissions giving tours to prospective students. She is also a part of Student Events, the student-run event planning committee on campus. Rachel loves Harry Potter, every variation of Law and Order, and talking about Brandeis. She is beyond excited for Orientation 2011 and can’t wait for all the new students to get to Brandeis!

Kate Baca

Kate is a sophomore majoring in Biology and Studio Fine Art. She comes from Albuquerque, New Mexico and loves explaining how she managed to find herself at Brandeis. When Kate's not studying she can be found practicing with her Brandeis Women's Ultimate Frisbee teammates, going on Mountain Club trips and working at the Office of Graduate Professional Studies. Kate loves the Boston Bruins, most comic book heroes and dancing along to music pretty much anywhere. She's thrilled to be a part of such an amazing opportunity and can't wait for Orientation 2011!

Rebecca Bachman

Rebecca Bachman is a sophomore majoring in Sociology and Education Studies with a possible minor in Social Justice and Social Policy. Rebecca is a proud New Yorker, and has lived in Westchester her whole life.  She is passionate about service and is a Waltham Group Coordinator for Brandeis Big Siblings.  She loves Brandeis.  Rebecca was active in planning the first Kindness Day at Brandeis.  She is on the Provost’s Assessment Committee, and served on the Student Advisory Committee to the Presidential Search.  Most recently she was selected to be one of two undergraduate students on the Search Committee for the Senior Vice President of Students and Enrollment. Rebecca is one of the Founding ExCEL Fellows, working with the Office of Experiential Learning. She loves serving as the Westchester Future Alumni of Brandeis Student Liaison. In her spare time Rebecca really loves to cook, knit and hang out with friends. Rebecca is very excited to be a part of the 2011 CORE Committee and cannot wait to share Brandeis with the incoming new students!

Max Goldstein

Max is a sophomore double majoring in Biology and HSSP.  After captaining the wrestling team at Needham High School in Needham, Massachusetts, Max came to Brandeis to pursue his love of science and the health industry.  He enjoys watching sports, working out, playing guitar, skiing, and participating in intramural sports.  Additionally, Max is on the Relay For Life committee, Colleges Against Cancer, Hospital Helpers, and VI.  Max loves the shows Seinfeld and How I Met Your Mother, the movies “The Wedding Singer” and “The Notebook,” and is passionate about attending Pearl Jam and Taylor Swift concerts.

Elana Rueven

Elana is a sophomore majoring in both IGS and History and minoring in Anthropology. Hailing from the costal town of Westport, Connecticut, Elana loves the exciting urban life of both Waltham and Boston. She spends her weeks busy volunteering with tutoring middle school students in Afternoon Enrichment, helping with an after-school program for elementary school students in Kids Club and working as a tenet advocate for the Waltham Community at WATCH. Holding an unofficial major in Upper Usdan, Elana's free time is spent eating, sleeping, and enjoying life with her friends. Elana cannot wait for Orientation 2011 and to show all the incoming new students about her favorite aspects of Brandeis!
