Meet the 2013 CORE Committee
Joe Babeu ’15, Coordinator
Joe is a sophomore double majoring in Russian Studies and Language and Linguistics with a minor in East Asian Studies. He was born and raised as a true country boy in the secluded mountain-town of North Adams, Massachusetts. Deciding against becoming a lumberjack, as his origins would suggest, Joe braved the wind and rain of Hurricane Irene to make a new home at Brandeis. Outside of working as the Coordinator for Orientation 2013, Joe is the Brandeis Media Coalition Captain, President and Founder of the Queer Policy Alliance, Publicity Coordinator and future President of Russian Club, an employee of Lemberg Children's Center, and a writer/funny-maker for Gravity Magazine. When Joe is done forgetting how to speak English due to his passionate studies in Russian and Japanese, he enjoys spending his time by looking at pictures of his dog, drinking an alarming amount of tea, playing tennis, and pondering over his wardrobe choices for the next day. Joe spent the last two summers working as a security guard at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, so you can bet that the upcoming orientation will be as secure as it gets. He is ecstatic to have the Core Committee assembled and can't wait to give the incoming first-years the best Brandeis Orientation of their lives!
Bethany Adam ‘15
Bethany is a sophomore majoring in theatre and politics with a minor in legal studies. Born and raised in rural New Hampshire, Bethany takes pride in her love of everything outdoors. She began her Brandeis experience last January as a member of the midyear class and immediately became obsessed with Brandeis. Since hitting the campus Bethany has joined Up The Octave (Brandeis' premiere all-female a cappella group), been in multiple theatre productions, and can be found playing club field hockey. While not at rehearsal or practice Bethany can be found hiking, singing, tie-dying, screaming at sports events and perfecting her Honey Boo Boo impression. She is so excited to meet the incoming first-years and cannot wait for Orientation!
Jason Haberman ‘15
Jason is a sophomore majoring in Psychology and HSSP with a minor in Theater Arts. He aspires to be a private-practice psychologist, specializing in working with children and adolescents. Even though he proudly represents his hometown of North Brunswick, NJ with frequent chanting of “Pump fists, not gas,” Brandeis has truly become his home away from home, and he could not imagine himself anywhere else. Besides serving as a member of the totally awesome 2013 Core Committee, Jason can be found leading tours for Admissions, co-hosting his radio show (“The One With…”) on WBRS, assisting on psychology research projects in the Watson-Wright Research Group, and snatching snitches for the Brandeis Quidditch team, of which he is the President. When he has free time, Jason enjoys supporting his friends in improv and a cappella groups on campus, singing loudly in his room, and finding new ways to make people laugh. Thanks to the cooler-than-bowties Core Committee, Orientation 2013 is going to be absolutely legend—WAIT FOR IT—dary! Class of 2017, GET PUMPED!
Rachel Starr ‘15
Rachel is a sophomore majoring in Business and English with a minor in History. From Long Island, New York, she proudly displays her Yankees pride and love of Derek Jeter (get well soon, buddy!). Her first love is her horse, Harley, whom she visits every week, giving him green apples and lots of hugs and kisses. When she’s not riding off into the sunset, she is hard at work in the library and on campus. She is President of Brandeisians Against Animal Cruelty, a loud and enthusiastic member of Student Events and a chatter/host for admissions. If there’s a way to get more involved on campus, Rachel is there. Whether it is with random one-liners or embarrassing herself, her mission in life is to make others smile. She loves meeting new people and quoting Family Guy. She is that person that never needs coffee. She gets her sense of humor and easygoing personality from her greatest idol, her father Seth Starr. If you think Rachel dressing up in the giant blood drop costume for the blood drive was a fantastic sight, just wait until Orientation 2013!
Adrianne Wurzl ‘14
Adrianne is a pre-med junior majoring in Neuroscience and German. Although she originally hails from Austria and Brazil, Adrianne grew up in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and immediately fell in love with Brandeis. While not planning Orientation, she can be found lifeguarding at the pool, studying sleep (and sleeping) in her research lab, working at the Blood Drives, and playing Frisbee. Adrianne is often referred to as Scooby, a nickname acquired through playing for the Brandeis Women’s Ultimate Team, Banshee, and is often seen on campus in full-blown Frisbee gear, throwing a disc with anyone interested. Adrianne/Scooby also enjoys baking apple pies in hurricanes, playing pranks on her friends/suitemates, watching The Big Bang Theory on repeat, eating many a bagel at Einstein’s, and meeting new people! She is so excited about Orientation 2013, and cannot wait to show the Class of 2017 her home, Brandeis University!
