Delegates

The Seminar delegates are outstanding students from around the world who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the 2016-17 school year. Each delegate was invited and applied for acceptance into the program. These are high school students who have already demonstrated success in a rigorous high school curriculum and shown significant leadership potential.

Delegates have an academic record that places them among the top students nationwide and typically rank in the top 5-10% of their high school class, with challenging courses and strong academic performance.

Seminar Activities

Delegates will hear from leading researchers, educators, artists, politicians and academic professionals. Speakers will engage delegates on key trends, issues, and developments. This rigorous and enlightening dialogue will help enable delegates to chart their own interests and courses of study.

Drawing on their interactions with Seminar speakers and dynamic group work, delegates will then engage in the exploration and debate of the core issues facing Israel today. They will work with their elite peers in high-energy simulations where they develop their leadership and team building skills in ways that will influence their learning for years to come. They will solve problems as they explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions inherent in Israeli studies.

Finally, delegates will develop lifelong friendships and bonds with their peers, while taking advantage of the many cultural and historic sites and experiences Boston provides.

Faculty Mentors

During the Seminar's intensive educational programs, students--in small groups--will be led by faculty mentors who have extensive experience in facilitating group learning.

Delegates will also learn from our resident faculty of esteemed professors, scholars who are actively engaged with the history, concepts and policy developments that are shaping the field of 21st century Israel study.

Location

Brandeis University is the primary base for the conference, offering participants a real taste of college life while also enabling them to take in the sights and sounds of nearby Boston. Although the Seminar runs an intensive educational program, delegates will also have access to the rich cultural life of the Greater Boston area. Delegates travel to all off-site events in air-conditioned motor coaches, supervised by Seminar staff.

Safety and Supervision

The safety, security, and educational outcomes for our students are of primary consideration in the planning of all Seminar activities.

Delegates meet regularly in small groups. The resident faculty to student ratio will be approximately 1:17.

Delegates will be supervised both on campus and during all excursions and off-site activities. There is limited leisure time; the delegates are kept engaged all day, with events, activities and meetings with their small groups.

The Seminar staff includes a dedicated program manager, professional curriculum designers, an experienced logistics team, and talented educators. The resident staff to student ratio will be approximately 1:14.

All delegates must reside in Brandeis' secure residence halls that are monitored at all times by adult faculty members.

Parents and guardians can reach a member of our team directly at any time during the Seminar by calling the Seminar phone number.
