Sad news about Trustee Robert Shapiro
Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,
We write to you to share the sad news that Robert Shapiro '52, a member of Brandeis's first graduating class and a longtime trustee of the university his father helped to establish, died last evening. He was 81 and had been battling cancer in the last year.
Robert was a man with a generous spirit who embodied the values of Brandeis in so many ways. The son of founding Trustee Abraham Shapiro, Robert literally grew up with the university - from student to alumnus to Reunion organizer to donor to fundraiser to president's councilor to fellow and, finally, to trustee in 1979. He was a regular and engaged visitor to campus over all those years.
On behalf of the Brandeis community, we express our deepest condolences to Robert's wife, Valya (Kazes) Shapiro '61, who met her husband through Brandeis, and to the entire Shapiro family.
Sincerely,
Frederick M. Lawrence, President
Malcolm L. Sherman, Chairman of the Board
