President's Discretionary Days for the Holiday Season
Sept. 28, 2012
Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,
I'd like to thank you for yet another year of tremendous commitment to the university. Your many contributions are valued and greatly appreciated. As we approach the holiday season, it is important that we have an opportunity to rest, relax and gather with family and friends.
Therefore, I have approved three (3) President’s Discretionary Days off during the December holiday period to allow additional time for those activities.
The three (3) Discretionary Days will be Wednesday, December 26, 2012, through Friday, December 28, 2012. Both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are traditionally half days, with an early release at noon. As they fall on Monday this year, I have decided to make each a full discretionary day.
As a result, the last day of regular work will be Friday, December 21, 2012, with employees returning to work on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Employees whose jobs require them to be on campus during this period should check with their supervisors regarding scheduling.
Additionally, as there are no scheduled classes on the day before Thanksgiving, I have approved a President’s Discretionary Day on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, for all faculty and staff, with employees returning to work on Monday, November 26.
As in the past, departments that must remain open will inform any staff members who are required to work all or some of the holiday schedule. These staff members are entitled to schedule other days off to make up for the holidays they are required to work.
I wish the entire Brandeis community a healthy, happy holiday season.
