Departure of Senior Vice President Ellen de Graffenreid
July 24, 2014
I am writing to inform you that Ellen de Graffenreid, senior vice president for communications, has accepted the position of vice chancellor of marketing and communications at the University of Missouri. Her last day at Brandeis will be Aug. 15.
I will discuss details of the search for her replacement during our Board call next Wednesday. In the interim, Bill Schaller, executive director for integrated media, will lead the Office of Communications under the direction of Senior Vice President for Students and Enrollment Andrew Flagel. Andrew has been deeply involved with our ongoing brand positioning and graphic identity project and will provide leadership continuity for this effort moving forward.
We will also be contracting with a local public relations firm to provide strategic counsel during the interim period.
The Honorary Degrees Committee, which Ellen was staffing, will be staffed by David Bunis, senior vice president and chief legal officer.
Ellen has served us very well during her time at Brandeis and I am grateful for all she has accomplished. This new move represents a homecoming for her — U. of Missouri is her parents’ alma mater and will enable her to be close to extended family. Please join me in congratulating Ellen on her new position.
