Statement about unrelated incidents / 布兰戴斯大学官方声明:关于近期我校两起独立事件的阐明。

Nov. 21, 2017

Dear Campus Community,

It has been a difficult few days in our community.

As we communicated to you yesterday, Brandeis IBS graduate student Chuanchuan “Kurtis” Zhang passed away while off campus in Boston on Saturday night. There is no indication of any foul play or violence involved in Kurtis’ death. We remain deeply saddened by the tragic loss of this wonderful young man.

We have become aware that some news and social media reports have linked Kurtis’ death with the armed robbery that took place on campus last night. It is very important to understand that there is no indication these two events are linked in any way whatsoever.

We ask for sensitivity to Kurtis’ friends and family at this time, and we urge you to dispel any false information about these two events being in any way related.

We remind anyone who is having difficulty processing these events that there is help available from the Brandeis Counseling Center. The center will be open today (11/21) until 6 p.m. and tomorrow (11/22) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be additional staff available, including therapists who speak Mandarin, to meet with students who are wanting support. Please walk into the center at any time during business hours and you will be seen. After-hours support will be available in English, Mandarin or Cantonese by calling (781) 736-3785.
