Curriculum

Degree Requirements

The program consists of 6 and 1/2 courses and a master’s project. The program requires full-time residency at Brandeis from September to May, followed by non-resident or continuation status from May to December, while undertaking the Master’s project.

Required Core Courses (2 and 1/2 courses)

a) Coexistence and Conflict Theory And Analysis (Professor Fitzduff)
b) Strategies For Coexistence Interventions (Professor Fitzduff)
c) Coexistence Research Methods (half-course) (Brandeis Staff)

Core Electives (2 courses)

a) Dialogue and Mediation Skills (Professor Johnson)
b) Managing Ethnic Conflict (Professor Burg)
c) Development, Aid and Coexistence (Professor Johnson)
d) The Future of Diversity Work (Professor Johnson)

Elective Courses (2 courses)

Students choose two electives from a pre-approved list and/or other relevant courses with permission of the director.

Master's Project

Following an academic year at Brandeis (September – May) students will undertake a three month internship or independent fieldwork. The project concludes with a Master’s field paper written under the supervision of a faculty mentor, to be completed by December.
