Maura Jane Farrelly

Maura Jane Farrelly is assistant professor of American studies and director of the Journalism Program at Brandeis. She holds a Ph.D. in history from Emory University, with an emphasis on the colonial and early-American periods, and on American religious history.

Farrelly has taught previously at Emory, the University of Georgia and Fordham University. Additionally, she worked as a full-time journalist for seven years, first for Georgia Public Radio in Atlanta and then for the Voice of America in Washington, D.C., and New York.

She has also freelanced for National Public Radio, Public Radio International and the British Broadcasting Corporation. Farrelly's current scholarly research focuses on Catholics in the South in the 18th and 19th centuries and on Methodist attempts to reconcile science with revealed religion in the 19th century.
