Lily Bonga

Lily Bonga graduated from Cornell University in 2006 with a minor in classical civilizations and a bachelor of fine arts concentration in photography. As a practicing artist, she has participated in several solo and group shows both in her hometown of Pittsburgh and in Ithaca, N.Y.

As Bonga's academic pursuits include Aegean prehistory, art criticism via aesthetic theory and a growing interest in cognitive archaeology, she has found herself concerned with the dynamics of museum systems, particularly with regard to the interpretation and presentation of ancient and prehistoric cultural materials. She is interested in the evolution and control of artistic production in the prehistoric and classical worlds and would like to explore artistic identities within their historical framework.

Bonga spent her undergraduate summers as the Neolithic ceramicist for the site of Halai, in East Lockris, Greece. She also served as the assistant site photographer for the inaugural excavations at the nearby Bronze Age site of Mitrou in 2004. She hopes to further her studies of the ancient world with an internship at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where she can synthesize her interests of art, archaeology and museum studies.
