Katie Hargrave
Originally from Chicago, Hargrave studied art history and studio art at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where she became interested in the notions of public memorial and place making. Her artistic research focuses on history as a venue for memorial. The outcome of her research varies in every project, including performance, printed matter, installation and video. Hargrave's practice and the efficacy of her results depend heavily on collaborative learning and community engagement. For many projects she conducts short research trips to local archives, libraries, town squares and county fairs. In Urbana-Champaign, she was a member of OPENSOURCE Art, a nonprofit alternative art space interested in a variety of nontraditional and community-oriented projects and events.
