Faris Ahmed Khan

Faris Ahmed Kahn holds a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology from Hanover College in Indiana. His research focus is on homosexuality in South Asia, queer South Asian communities in diaspora, visuality and popular culture, and globalization, transnational movements and religion more broadly.

In 2004, Khan conducted fieldwork in Pakistan among the elite gay community in Karachi. He presented his work at the Central States Anthropological Society conference in 2005 and received the CSAS 2005 Undergraduate Division Student Paper Award. His work evaluated the role of global processes in the conception of the neoteric upperclass "gay culture" in Karachi and its impact on traditional Pakistani institutions of family and traditional heterosexual marriage.
