Breakthrough Collaborative partners high-potential, low-income middle school students with college students interested in careers in education who serve as their teachers, role models and mentors. Summer programs at 28 sites around the country.

Excel Academy Charter School, East Boston, MA
Excel is a tuition-free, charter middle school serving 178 students from Chelsea and East Boston, 70% of whom are Latino. The school prepares students to succeed in high school and college. Students take 100 minutes of math and English daily, science and social studies twice a week, and they receive targeted tutoring and academic support focused on individual needs. Paid intern with commitment to urban education will have opportunity for instructional and administrative work. Previous teaching experience preferred and ability to speak Spanish a plus. MATCH Corps, Boston, MA
A one-year urban education fellowship program. Recent college graduates from excellent universities around the US work in an intensive, one-on-one tutoring program with four urban high school students, one each in grades 9 through 12, and serve as teaching assistant in particular subject areas, coach sports and run clubs. Volunteer Opportunities in Education
Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) places nearly 1000 volunteers who serve as tutors, classroom, library, and special project assistants in the Cambridge, MA, elementary and high schools. Volunteers help students with reading, math, science, ESL; assist with college essay writing, science Olympiad coaching, and MCAS preparation. Volunteers receive training and need not have prior teaching experience.
