About the Education Program
The Education Program at Brandeis has two missions:
- Preparing teachers who are reflective practitioners and who excel in the classroom
- Studying the institution of education using scholarly tools from multiple disciplines
We are a small program in which dedicated faculty, outstanding school colleagues, and committed students work closely together.
About the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education
The Mandel Center is dedicated to shaping the discourse in Jewish education. The Center promotes the study of teaching and learning, develops model programs for Jewish educators, and forms partnerships to generate knowledge and improve practice.

Marya R. Levenson is Professor of the Practice in Education and the Harry S. Levitan Director of the Brandeis Education Program. She was a teacher in the Boston Public Schools, principal of Newton North High School, and superintendent of the North Colonie Schools.
Sharon Feiman-Nemser
Sharon Feiman-Nemser is the Mandel Professor of Jewish Education at Brandeis University and the founding director of the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education. She has written extensively about mentoring, new teacher induction, teacher education and the role of experience in learning to teach.
