Dr. Kelly Demers, "Racial Geography of Teaching" - May 12, 2009, 4:30 - 6:00pm, Abraham Shapiro Academic Complex Room 204
The purpose of this study was to understand the ways in which White teachers negotiated the meaning of race and racism within their personal lives and professional practice. Findings suggested that White teachers are worried about race and this worry is negotiated through various discursive practices such as color-blindness and race cognizance.
Dr. Kelly Demers is a Teacher Education Specialist in the Master of Arts in Teaching program and Lecturer in Education and Sociology. Dr. Demers received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College in April 2009.
