Any undergraduate at Brandeis can begin fulfilling requirements of the program at any time, without formal admission.
A grade of at least B- is required in ED 100a (Exploring Teaching - Elementary) and ED 107a (Teaching of Elementary Reading), for those pursuing elementary licensure; and in ED 100b, (Exploring Teaching - Secondary) for those seeking secondary licensure.
Permission of the Director is required for the final stage of the process:
- ED 102a (Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment), ED 104a (Secondary School Curriculum and Methods), and ED 110e (Practice Teaching: Secondary School), or
- ED 101a & b (Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Literacy and Social Studies), ED 105a (Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Math and Science) and ED 111e (Practice Teaching: Elementary School), or
- ED 112e (Practice Teaching: Preschool)

- ED 112e (Practice Teaching: Preschool).
Prerequisites are:
- PSYC 33a (Developmental Psychology), and
- ED 103a (Teaching Strategies for Early Childhood)
These courses, plus two electives, will fulfill the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care requirements for teachers in Pre-K, nursery school or day care.

- ED 100a (Exploring Teaching - Elementary), followed by
- PSYC 33a (Developmental Psychology)
Note that PSYC 1a (Introduction to Psychology) is a prerequisite for PSYC 33a.
- ED 107a (Teaching of Elementary Reading)
Note that sophomores who have taken ED 100a are advised to take ED 107a as juniors.
- ED 101a & b (Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Literacy and Social Studies)
Always begun the semester before practice teaching (usually in the fall of the senior year);
- ED 105a (Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Math and Science)
Always begun the semester before practice teaching (usually in the fall of the senior year);
- ED 111e, Practice Teaching: Elementary School.
Usually in the spring of senior year.
Also required is a mathematics course at the 5a level, Pre-calculus Mathematics, or above, or a satisfactory score on a special test given by the mathematics department.
Students must consult the Director of the Program for other requirements.

Please note: Students must pass the Massachusetts Communication and Literacy Tests before enrolling in ED 111e.

Junior year.
- ED 104a (Secondary School Curriculum and Methods)
Concurrently with practice teaching.
- ED 110e (Practice Teaching: Secondary School)
Usually in the fall of senior year.
Students must consult the Director of the Program for other requirements.
Please note: It is recommended that students take ED 100b in their sophomore year and ED 102a in their junior year. Students must pass the Massachusetts Communication and Literacy Test before enrolling in ED 110e.
