HSSP On Campus

The following HSSP students were awarded Summer 2009 Social Justice Awards
  • Shaina Gilbert '10: Will work with the Organization of Support to the Development of the Plateau Central to help launch a summer youth camp for Haitians. She will tutor and train youth to strengthen their academic and social justice leadership skills.
  • Anum Khan '10: Will work at UNICEF Canada in Toronto, where she will conduct research, review policy and analyze data for reports for the State of the World's Children Report and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • Shanna Rifkin '11: Will work for NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts in Boston on grassroots campaigns to inform college students around the country about two new public health initiatives.
  • Rebecca Sturgis '11: Will work at the National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington, D.C., where she will be responsible for creating a report on the mortality rate of homeless people and the leading causes of death in shelters.

HSSP student Brooke Rosenbauer '09 won the Truman Fellowship last year for her extraordinary leadership in a program called GrassRoots Soccer which combines soccer with HIV-preventative education. The Truman Scholarship is for students interested in a career in pubc service. A strong record of activism and/or leadership is necessary for this award. Congratulations Brooke!
