Application Deadlines

  • MA: For fall semester (starts in late August): Rolling through May 1; review of applications begins January 15.

  • BA/MA:

    • Brandeis seniors: November 15
    • Brandeis juniors: Apply in the spring semester of junior year by May 1

MA Track

Applicants to the Master of Arts Program in Comparative Humanities apply electronically through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The application requirements for the MA track are listed below. (Note: Current Brandeis students applying for the BA/MA track should refer to the BA/MA application requirements.)

Current Brandeis students and recent Brandeis alumni who are applying for the MA track should refer to the application requirements at the bottom of the page.

Application Requirements for the MA Track

  • An online application;
  • An application fee (waived for Brandeis alumni);
  • Transcripts from all universities and colleges attended must be uploaded to your application; do not mail official transcripts to our office;
  • Two letters of recommendation, submitted electronically;
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) or resumé;
  • A statement of purpose indicating your reasons for undertaking graduate study. In addition, please describe your qualifications for the MACH and your objectives in undertaking this program.
  • A writing sample, not to exceed 35 pages.
  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required. Our ETS institution code is 3092.

International students: For additional requirements for international applicants (non-U.S. citizens or non-permanent residents), minimum TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores, and important information regarding visas, please visit the GSAS International Students page.

Current Brandeis Students/Recent Alumni

Current Brandeis students and Brandeis alumni who have graduated within the past three years are eligible to apply for the Comparative Humanities MA track with the following application materials:

  • An online application;
  • Transcripts from all universities and colleges attended must be uploaded to your application; do not mail official transcripts to our office;
  • One letter of recommendation from a Brandeis faculty member, submitted electronically;
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) or resumé;
  • A statement of purpose indicating your reasons for undertaking graduate study. In addition, please describe your qualifications for the MACH and your objectives in undertaking this program.
  • A writing sample, not to exceed 35 pages.

Please note the GRE requirement and application fee are waived for current Brandeis students and Brandeis alumni who have graduated within the past three years. If you are a current Brandeis student or recent Brandeis alumnus/a applying for the Comparative Humanities MA track, please contact Alyssa Ring, MACH Program Administrator, for additional application instructions.
