"I couldn't get over the confidence, professionalism, and dedication of the students in Quito who are working with A GANAR (The Fundacion de las Americas para el Desarollo). A GANAR is currently the only organization in Latin America that uses soccer as a tool to prepare people for the workforce. The programs offer a variety of courses: hotel/hospitality management, culinary arts, bartending/waitering, and auto mechanics. I couldn't get over the confidence, professionalism, and dedication of the students in Quito. Walking into the classrooms, seeing the students taking meticulous notes--you would never guess that they come from the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Besides working incredibly hard, they are constantly quizzed, assessed, graded, and challenged. A GANAR puts emphasis on values, and the Ecuadorian kids really seemed to have absorbed and internalized what they learn. Every day they were told not to be afraid to make mistakes, to let go of fear to fail, and to stay positive and find the strength to overcome adversity."

"In addition to learning skills, they are learning how to conduct themselves--in the workplace and in their personal lives. It is a truly pivotal point in their lives because it represents an opportunity to overcome the class differences that dictate much of Ecuadorian society and to realize their true potential as students and leaders."
