Macromolecular Structure and Mechanism is an optional add-on training program designed for graduate students in the Brandeis Biochemistry and Biophysics and Structural Biology Ph.D. Programs.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms by which macromolecules work is necessary for a coherent picture of living systems. The two essential components for achieving this understanding are a knowledge of macromolecular structure and the art of thinking mechanistically. The goal of the Macromolecular Structure and Function Training Program is to provide the next generation of scientists with these two intellectual tools. Students participating in the program receive specialized training in analyzing the three-dimensional stuctures and chemical behaviors of proteins, DNA and RNA that is in addition to the normal academic requirements of their Ph.D. program.

The Macromolecular Structure and Function Training Program at Brandeis is funded by the University and by a training grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, NIH.
