Welcome to the Islam section of the Feminist Sexual Ethics website. Here you will find resources addressing issues of sexual ethics and gender relations in Muslim communities and Islamic texts. Our site provides a series of subsections that address key topics such as marriage contracts, divorce, veiling, same-sex sexual behavior and lesbian identity, obedience, honor killings, and other crucial subjects. For each topic, we bring together specific religious texts (verses of the Quran and selections from hadith); references to other sources, such as legal and exegetical writings; and interpretive commentary that serves as an introduction to the diversity of opinions on these subjects. We devote particular attention to progressive views. There is also an extensive bibliography. Our links section provides connections to many of the wonderful resources located elsewhere on the web. We hope that this page will become a frequent stop for all Muslims and non-Muslims committed to ensuring Muslim women full dignity and participation in matters of faith, family, and society.
