Installation Instructions
Warning: read and follow the installation instructions. Glimpse probably will not work if you don't follow the instructions.
First, decide whether you want to install the
executable or
source
version of the software. You should most likely start with the
executable unless you are familiar with LabVIEW and want to customize
Glimpse. Separate installation instructions for the
executable and
source versions are given below.
Executable version installation instructions
- Log on to an account with Administrator privileges.
- Download and install the current version of NI-IMAQ.
- If desired, install the appropriate version of Matlab (Matlab is only required for a small number of Glimpse functions; see System Requirements.)
- Download, unzip into a temporary directory, and run the
Glimpse installer
setup.exe
file. The installer will install the Glimpse
application. After you click finish on the Glimpse installer, click on
the command line window that pops up and press any key; this will
install the required NI run-time software. (You will be
required to accept an NI license agreement to do this installation.)
- If this is the first time using Glimpse on this computer, copy
the file
LabView hardware configuration.ini from the Data
subdirectory of the directory into which Glimpse was installed (usually
C:\Program Files\Gelles Lab Software\Data) to the directory into which
Glimpse was installed (usually C:\Program Files\Gelles Lab Software).
Edit this file and change the value of the"Root path=" key under
"[RAID drive]" so that it points to the directory you want to use to
temporarily store acquired data. If you have RAID system for high
speed acquisition, this directory should be loacated on the RAID disk.
- To use analog video acquisition, the frame grabber board must be
configured (Start>Programs>National Instruments>Measurement
& Automation) as follows: set a large (~1,000) maximum number of
acquisition buffers; 8-bit acquisition.
- Run Glimpse (Start>Programs>Gelles Lab Software>Glimpse).
- Glimpse users should subscribe to the glimpse-announce mailing list so they will get notified of bug fixes and updates.
Source version installation instructions
- Verify that your computer has the correct versions
of LabVIEW, NI-IMAQ, and IMAQ Vision installed.. Install (in that
order) if necessary. (If you are upgrading from a previous
version of LabVIEW, we recommend completely uninstalling NI-IMAQ and
IMAQ Vision before the upgrade, then reinstalling after, to be certain
that the VIs in these packages get properly installed into the new
version of LabView.)
- If desired, install the appropriate version of Matlab (Matlab is only required for a small number of Glimpse functions; see System Requirements.)
- Download
and unzip the source files. (For certain system configurations, the help file
may not display properly unless Glimpse is run from within the \Program
Files\... directory tree, because of security issues with the Windows help
viewer -- see Microsoft KB323180).
- Edit “LabView
hardware configuration.ini” and
change the value of the"Root path=" key under "[RAID drive]" so that
it points to the directory you want to use to temporarily store
acquired data. If you have RAID system for high speed acquisition,
this directory should be loacated on the RAID disk.
- To use analog video acquisition, the frame grabber board must be
configured (Start>Programs>National Instruments>Measurement
& Automation) as follows: set a large (~1,000) maximum number of
acquisition buffers; 8-bit acquisition.
- To run Glimpse, execute "Glimpse Launcher.vi" in "Glimpse.llb".
- Glimpse users should subscribe to the glimpse-announce mailing list so they will get notified of bug fixes and updates.
Software Versions
These are the current versions of the Glimpse software and the versions
of the software that it works with. It is unlikely that the
current version of Glimpse will work with earlier versions of
these packages. .
