HR/Payroll Bulletin - Spring 2002
Topic:
Sick time accrual and carryover policy for exempt employees
Effective Date:
May 2002
Current Policy
All full-time benefit-eligible exempt employees receive twelve sick days on the anniversary of their date of hire. Employees with less than one year of service accrue sick time at the rate of one day for each month of employment. There is no carry over allowed.
What's New?
Sick time will accrue on a per pay period basis for a total of twelve days per year. When we go live on PeopleSoft, actual existing sick leave balances will be loaded on the system. To ease the transition, employees will also be credited with additional sick days based on their date of hire, as detailed in the chart below. In no case, will the combination of existing time and the credited time exceed twelve days. Sick time credited for less than full time employees will be pro-rated. New accruals will begin on January 1; however, twelve days may be carried into the new year. Sick leave balances may never exceed twelve days. Other policies regarding the use of sick time will remain the same.
Why?
PeopleSofttracks sick time accruals based on a calendar year, rather than individual anniversary dates.
Who does this affect?
All benefit-eligible exempt employees.
