Introduction |
| The Brandeis PeopleSoft Implementation got a namethe PEAK Projectjust as it passed a major milestone. We passed the milestone on July 2nd. Until June 29th we entered financial data onto the old FRS system. On July 2nd we began entering onto the new PeopleSoft system. This "go live" was a low-key event, but only because of tremendous work on the part of a team of about sixty staff members from many University departments over more than a year |
Impact on the Community |
| The most significant way this will affect members of the Brandeis University community will be in the use of new codes to do financial transactions. The old FRS account number or chargeline, as it was called, will become the PeopleSoft chartstring, a sequence of numbers identifying the department, the type of transaction, and other details. As a result many University forms will be changed to accommodate the new numbering system and to improve efficiency. We have held several training sessions to introduce the community to the new forms and PeopleSoft chartstrings, and will offer more soon. You can find information on the forms here and the chartstring numbering here |
The Old System |
| We will use the old system, FRS (Financial Records System), to complete transactions remaining from the 2001 fiscal year, which ended on June 30th. However, once these transactions are done, the system will be "closed" for most university use. It will remain operational, in a limited way, only to support the student system, which relies on data still on the old system. |
Next Steps |
| Later this summer, after the completion of the first full month in operation, the PeopleSoft system will generate its first sets of reports, which are now being developed. The most common will be the Budget to Actuals Report, which provides information on what a department budgeted and what it actually spent to date. We will post samples of this and other reports on the web site as soon as they are available. We will also offer another series of informational sessions to help all involved understand exactly what the new reports include. |
