The Faculty Workload Committee (FWC)
Nov. 9, 2009
The Faculty Workload Committee will examine how workloads among Arts and Sciences faculty are distributed across the three core responsibilities: teaching, scholarship/creative activity and service. The purpose of this review is to determine what (if any) changes in policy and practice are needed to ensure equity and to achieve the multiple missions of Arts and Sciences. This review will include consideration of recommendations for a post-tenure review process within Arts and Sciences.
The committee has been formed by the provost and by the Senate Council. The committee consists of five members, including the dean of arts and sciences as chair, and four additional members. Two of the faculty were selected by the Senate Council, and two were selected by the provost.
The committee is charged to present recommendations by Feb. 1, 2010, to the Faculty Senate, the School Councils and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee for review, as mandated by the Faculty Handbook, prior to submission of the recommendations to the Provost.
