Adam B. Jaffe, the Fred C. Hecht Professor in Economics, has served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences since 2003. He has also held the position of chair of the economics department and as chair of the Intellectual Property Policy Committee at Brandeis.
Prior to joining the university in 1993, Jaffe was an assistant and associate professor at Harvard University and a senior staff economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers.
Jaffe’s research focuses on the economics of innovation. His highly acclaimed book "Innovation and Its Discontents: How Our Broken Patent System is Endangering Innovation and Progress, and What to Do About It," co-authored with Josh Lerner of Harvard Business School, was released in paperback in 2006.
Jaffe earned a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard and an S.M. in technology and policy and an S.B. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Lisa M. Lynch
Dean and Professor of Economics, Heller School for Social Policy and Management

Lisa M. Lynch, professor of economics, has served since July 2008 as dean of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management.
She also serves as chair of the board of directors of the Boston Federal Reserve Bank and as a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Readiness Finance Commission and the executive board of the Labor and Employment Relations Association.
Lynch previously was the William L. Clayton Professor of International Economics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where she also served as academic dean from 2001 to 2004. She was chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor from 1995 to 1997 and has held faculty positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Ohio State University and the University of Bristol, England.
She has published extensively on issues such as the impact of technological change and organizational innovation (especially training) on productivity and wages, the determinants of youth unemployment and school-to-work transition.
Lynch holds both a master of science and doctor of philosophy in economics from the London School of Economics. She earned a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Wellesley College.
Bruce R. Magid

Bruce R. Magid has served as dean of the International Business School since August 2007.
He was previously dean of the College of Business and the founding dean of the Lucas Graduate School of Business at San José State University. Prior to joining San José State, Magid was the founding executive director of MSU Global, Michigan State University's online and global distance education business unit. He was also an adjunct professor in the department of finance at Michigan State University's Eli Broad Graduate School of Management.
Before entering academic administration, Magid provided leadership as a managing director and senior vice president at Bank of America, where he served for 21 years, managing a variety of units, including international economic policy research groups and Latin America Division corporate finance.
Magid has also formerly served as senior adviser to the minister of planning of the Republic of Venezuela and developed and taught executive education courses.
Magid holds a multidisciplinary Ph.D. in international economics, business law and comparative politics from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
