The Brandeis University Medical Corps (BEMCo) is Brandeis’ student-run volunteer emergency medical service. BEMCo strives to provide timely and efficient emergency medical care to the Brandeis community. Today, under the guidance of the Director of Public Safety and the director of the University Health Center, BEMCo continues to meet the emergency medical needs of the community.
Located in the Stoneman building, BEMCo operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year. Student volunteers are all Massachusetts-state certified emergency medical technicians (EMTs). BEMCo is equipped with a Class V Ambulance inspected and certified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the latest in emergency medical equipment.
BEMCo adheres to all federal and state statutes regarding a patient's privacy as it relates to treatment. Each year, BEMCo provides first-aid instruction to the Brandeis community in such areas as CPR, AED usage, and basic first aid as well as recruiting new members to train as EMTs.
