The Rabb School of Continuing Studies

Supporting the University in its mission of academic access and teaching excellence since 1992, the Rabb School is dedicated to developing innovative educational offerings and to providing a collegial community for its on-campus and online learners. With its four divisions, Graduate Professional Studies, Office of Summer and Continuing Studies, Lifelong Learning, and Brandeis High School Programs, the Rabb School seeks to serve learners throughout their lives and to support the University financially.

The Rabb School provides multiple sources of value to Brandeis: innovation in online pedagogy and technology; outreach to new constituencies of diverse learners; commitment to social justice; enhanced Brandeis name recognition nationally and internationally and a pipeline for undergraduate admissions; high-quality, applied graduate education for professionals; summer sessions for Brandeis students, external college students and high school students; lifelong learning for mature adults, both as a means to alumni and community engagement, and as an educational end-in-itself; and a significant and steady stream of revenue.

Graduate Professional Studies
Graduate Professional Studies (GPS) extends the benefit of a Brandeis graduate education to a diverse working professional population by providing master’s degrees available part-time in applied fields. GPS academic programs, offered entirely online, are designed for professionals who contribute unique perspectives from their experience and current work, thereby enriching the course offerings while broadening their communities of practice.

Founded in 1997, GPS has by now furthered the professional growth of over 1,400 successful master’s degree holders. GPS currently offers ten master’s degree programs in the fields Bioinformatics; Information Technology Management; Information Security; Health and Medical Informatics; Project and Program Management; Strategic Analytics; Software Engineering; Instructional Design & Technology; Digital Marketing and Design; User-Centered Design and a Graduate Certificate in Learning Analytics. Courses are delivered online for 10 or 13 weeks; terms begin in September, January and May.

Office of Summer and Continuing Studies
The Brandeis Office of Summer and Continuing Studies is home to summer credit offerings via the Summer Program and both credit and noncredit offerings to individuals seeking part-time study but not yet ready to engage in a degree program via its Continuing Studies activities.

• The Summer Program is an open admission program offering courses and special summer programs for college-level credit. Small classes taught by experienced and dedicated Brandeis faculty members are the hallmark of summer offerings. Special programs, institutes and chamber music workshops with members of the Lydian String Quartet, artists-in-residence. Summer School provides the opportunity to experience innovative course formats, such as online offerings or evening and extended sessions, to accommodate work and other summer activities. Brandeis Summer School courses are preapproved for use toward the Brandeis degree. Courses may be used toward the 128 credits required for the Bachelor's degree, toward residency and toward general educational, as well as major and minor requirements. Grades received for Brandeis Summer School courses are included as part of the candidate's permanent academic record and in the calculation of GPAs. Transfer students should check the University Bulletin section on semester and credit requirements for the special requirements that pertain to them.
• Brandeis Continuing Studies provides the opportunity for college-age students and adult learners who wish to explore academic interests on a part-time basis while considering a full-degree program at Brandeis or elsewhere. High school transcripts and a letter of recommendation are required of all applicants. There is no financial aid available for non-degree course work.

In addition to credit courses offered as part of the undergraduate academic year, Continuing Studies is also the home to innovative, non-credit niche workshops and on-line activity designed for those pursuing post degree skills.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Brandeis University
BOLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Brandeis, is a membership organization which offers over 45 classes in history, politics, sociology, literature, music, art, science and film, facilitated by knowledgeable and passionate teachers and pursued in an atmosphere of congeniality and mutual encouragement. A complete list of current BOLLI peer-led study groups is available from the Rabb School.

Coinciding with class days, BOLLI also sponsors a "Lunch & Learn" lecture series bringing local and national celebrities, authors, and professors to its quarters and allowing for vigorous member Q & A. During intersessions, BOLLI offers intensive seminars taught by outstanding Brandeis faculty.

BOLLI activities occur off-campus as well. For example, the Theatre Group arranges discounted viewing of outstanding Boston shows, with frequent opportunities to meet the director or cast after the performance and to dine out with BOLLI friends. The Adventure Group sponsors trips to museums, historical sites and other local attractions. Finally, the University community welcomes BOLLI members to many campus cultural, artistic, and academic events year-round, and our members have full on-campus use of Brandeis’ world-class research library.
