Italian Self-Placement Test
Directions
As you prepare to take the Italian Placement Exam, you should find a quiet place where you can work comfortably and complete the test in one sitting. Work on your own, without the help of a grammar book, a dictionary, or another person; answer as many of the following questions as possible.
When you finish the exam, correct it according to the key provided. Tally the number of correct answers and check to see where, on the basis of the number of correct answers, you would place in the sequence of Italian language courses.
Remember: this is only a test to be used as a tool to place yourself in the correct level of Italian. You will not be graded or evaluated by anyone else on the basis of your performance on this exam. In other words, it's not a test demonstrating to others what you do or don't know, but a means by which you can assess your ability and therefore continue your study of Italian in the appropriate class.
