Topic for fall 2009: International Criminal Law and Human Rights: From Nuremberg to Guantanamo. Introduces basic features of international law, focusing on principles of justice and human rights originating in Nuremberg. Explores how evolving Nuremberg principles have been applied to significant rights violations in recent decades, including the problem of terrorism and America's response to 9/11. The course features a mock trial exercise with attention to roles of prosecutors, defenders, and judges, conducted under Nuremberg principles.
