Personal and collective identity components find potent expression in the visual arts both explicitly (self-portraiture) and implicitly. This course examines paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and films (from the 19th to the 21st centuries) that relate to identity, with special emphasis on gender, nationality, ethnicity and religion.
