Research Areas

Research at the Rosenstiel Basic Medical Sciences Research Center focuses on four areas. They are:

DNA Repair (Grigorieff, Haber, Lovett)
Aims at understanding how damaged chromosomes are repaired and prevent genomic instability associated with cancer.

Neurodegenerative Disorders (Petsko, Pochapsky, Ringe, Rodal)
Aims at solving the mysteries of Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), Alzheimer's disease and Lewy Body dementia.

Cardiovascular Disease (Cohen, Goode, Nicastro)
Aims at defining heart muscle architecture and the detailed inner workings of contractile machinery.

Developmental Diseases and Aging (Goode, Lau, Marr, Nicastro, Petsko, Ringe)
Aims at understanding the molecular basis of ciliopathies, diabetes, spina bifida, infertility, stem cell maintenance and cellular aging.
