Searching and Viewing Class Schedules
You view the class schedule to find information about the schedule of classes for a specific term.
Quick Start
- Go to your Student Services page
- Click Academics to go to your Academics page.
- Under Course Catalog and Schedule, click View Schedule of Classes.

The Select Term page displays.
Before you can search you must specify the term. A term code is a four-digit number beginning with 1. The next two digits are the two-digit year (04 for 2004). The last digit indicates the semester:
1 = spring
2 = summer
3 = fall
For example, fall 2004 is 1043, spring 2005 is 1051, summer 2006 is 1062.
- When you have entered a term, click Search.
- Course Component - type of class, such as independent study, laboratory, lecture, seminar, or studio.
- Course Career - undergraduate, graduate, etc.
- Include Only These Days
- Include Any of These Days
- Exclude Only These Days
- Exclude Any of These Days
- When you have entered all your criteria, click Search.

Sage displays all class sections that fit your criteria. You can see the class number, class section, status of the sections, available seats, and the number of people on the waitlist (unaccommodated demand list).
Click View Detail to see more detail about the class section, including class notes, attributes, and the enrollment capacity (how many seats are available in the class sections).
To go to the course catalog from this page, click Course Catalog Detail.
- When you are finished, you can click Advanced Search to conduct another class search, or Return to Select Term to go back to the Academic Home page.
Sage displays the Advanced Class Search page.
If you know the course ID or class number, enter that and press Search.
You can click on the lookup icon -
beside the Course ID field to lookup course IDs.
Note: If you do not enter a course ID or class number, you must enter at least two criteria before you can search. You can click Search any time after you have entered at least two criteria.
Class Search Criteria
Subject:
Enter a subject code, such as math for Mathematics or eng for English. You can click on the lookup icon
beside the Subject field to lookup subjects.
Catalog Number:
If you know the exact catalog number, enter it in the Catalog Number field.
If you know only part of the number, enter that and be sure Wildcard appears in the drop-down menu. A wildcard search will return all courses that include your entry in the Catalog Number field.
For example, if you entered MATH as the subject area, then enter 15 in the Catalog Number field with Wildcard displaying, the results will include only math courses with 15 in the catalog number - MATH 15A, MATH 150B, etc.
Attribute/Value:
Brandeis uses course attributes to indicate certain course characteristics. For example, the attribute GENR indicates courses that satisfy a general education requirement. XL indicates cross-listed courses.
If you enter an attribute, you can also enter a corresponding value to narrow your search further. For example, if you selected the attribute GENR to see general university requirements, you could specify the value SS, for School of Social Studies.
You can click on the lookup icon
beside the Value field (the field to the right of the Attribute field) to lookup values that correspond to the attribute you selected.
Open Classes Only:
Select the Open Classes Only option to view only the classes that are open. To see all classes (both open and closed) leave the option unselected.
Note: To be placed on the unaccommodated demand list for a closed class section, search on all classes (not just open classes).
Description:
Enter all or part of a course title description. For example, enter lit to display all classes with literary or literature in their titles.
Drop-Down Menus:
You can make selections from any of the following drop-down menus:
To search for graduate classes only (200 and above), change the Course Career to Graduate. To see only undergraduate classes (under 199), select the Undergraduate career.
Note: Graduate students wishing to view 100 level classes should either leave the Course Career blank or select the Undergraduate option.
Session:
Summer Session I, Summer Session II, etc.
Class Days:
Click to select specific days, then use the drop down menu to select:
Time:
Enter start and end time in hours and minutes including am or pm, as - 9:00am or 1:00pm.
Instructor's Name:
You can enter an instructor's first or last name.
Instructor-name searches can be based on an exact match of the name entered or a wildcard match.
If you know the exact first or last name, enter it in the appropriate field.
If you know only part of the name, enter that and be sure Wildcard appears in the drop-down menu.
For example, if Allan Kracinsky teaches the class you are interested in, but you are not sure of the spelling of his name, you can enter kra for last name, al for first, and be sure that Wildcard displays. That will narrow the search to only instructors whose names begin with those letters.
