Information & Resources for Brandeis Students

Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) initiatives at Brandeis are devoted to expanding the circle of participation in the educational process, drawing students, faculty, staff and community members into thought-provoking conversations about ideas, citizenship, and social responsibility. CEL courses offer students exciting opportunities to engage with faculty, staff and partners from various communities, applying ideas and material encountered in the classroom to a wide range of projects. These courses sometimes require more time and effort than the average course. Since students must work with community members who often have to handle work, school and families of their own, a certain amount of flexibility is required on the part of students and faculty. These courses are best suited to students who are looking for a challenging experience that will allow them to have an effect on the world beyond the classroom.
