Temple Aliyah, an egalitarian Conservative congregation in Needham, Massachusetts, seeks teachers for its newly restructured religious education program, Mercaz Aliyah. Mercaz Aliyah: The center for your child’s Jewish living and learning, allows families the opportunity to select their child’s course of study as well as to tailor their child’s schedule to meet their needs. Mercaz Aliyah is a child-centered, experiential program guided by the Conservative Movement, The Responsive Classroom and Understanding by Design.
Skills and Duties:
Israel 1 Lead Teacher: Sunday 9:45-10:40 AM, grades 2&3. This course explores the cities and symbols of Israel.
Israel 1 Assistant Teachers: Sunday 9:45-10:40 AM, grades 2&3. This course explores the cities and symbols of Israel.
Hebrew Help Assistant Teachers: Sundays 9:45-10:40 AM, grades 2-7. Assistant teachers work with individual students or pairs of students to support the development of Hebrew reading fluency.
Israel 2 Lead Teacher: Sunday 10:40-11:35 AM, Grades 4&5. This course explores the events and people who shaped the development of the State of Israel.
Israel 2 Assistant Teachers: Sunday 10:40-11:35 AM, Grades 4&5. This course explores the events and people who shaped the development of the State of Israel.
Life Cycle Lead Teacher: Sundays 10:40-11:35 AM, Grades 6&7. This course explores the Jewish Life Cycle through the lens of Life Cycle events from birth and naming rituals through death and mourning.
Life Cycle Assistant Teachers: Sundays 10:40-11:35 AM, Grades 6&7. This course explores the Jewish Life Cycle through the lens of Life Cycle events from birth and naming rituals through death and mourning.
Haftarah Trope Teacher: Mondays 3:50-4:40, Grades 4&5. In this elective course students learn Haftarah Trope with the goal of reading Haftarah in the Main Sanctuary.
Siddur 3 Teacher: Mondays 3:50-4:40, Grades 5&6. In this course students explore the nusach, choreography and meaning of the Shabbat Morning Amidah with the goal of obtaining proficiency in leading the service.
Kehillah Zone Coordinator: Mondays 2:40-6:05, Thursdays 2:40-6:05. Kehillah Zone is a supervised after school program where students in grades K-7 can socialize, enjoy quiet board games, art activities, outdoor play or complete homework. The Kehilah Zone Coordinator is responsible for planning an appropriate range of activities and insuring appropriate supervision.
Bus Monitor: Mondays 2:00-3:30, Thursdays 2:00-3:30. Temple Aliyah offers bus service from Needham Public Middle and Elementary Schools to Temple Aliyah. The Bus Monitor rides the bus daily and is responsible for creating a positive atmosphere on the bus as well as for keeping accurate records of bus ridership.
