Background
The Initiative for Inclusive Security, a program of Hunt Alternatives Fund, advocates for the full participation of all stakeholders, especially women, in peace processes. Creating sustainable peace is
achieved best by a diverse, citizen-driven approach. Of the many sectors of society currently excluded from peace processes, none is larger — or more critical to success — than women. Since 1999, Inclusive Security has connected more than 450 women experts with over 3,000 policy shapers to collaborate on fresh, workable solutions to long-standing conflicts across the globe.
Consultant Responsibilities and Tasks
The incumbent of this position is based in Khartoum, Sudan. However, we are willing to consider applicants based outside of Sudan who are willing to travel to Sudan frequently. He or she will report to the Policy Advocate and Program Supervisor in the Washington, D.C., office and work closely with other members of the Inclusive Security Sudan team. The initial period of the contract is four months, with extensions possible. The coordinator will:
- Support diverse women leaders from government and civil society. Primary responsibilities will include convening women leaders, exposing participants to international actors and opportunities, and coordinating the delivery of training and briefing sessions. Specifically, the coordinator will:
- Assist in facilitating strategic and work planning;
- Structure and realize a schedule of meetings and training sessions;
- Help moderate discussions on advocacy priorities and opportunities for cooperation and collective action;
- Oversee all logistics associated with convening meetings including arranging presentations by and discussions with international organizations and country missions, and coordinating technical training in areas including proposal writing, strategic planning, conducting advocacy, working with the media, coalition building, project monitoring and evaluation, and more as defined by strategic planning.
- Assemble information about funding and opportunities available for Sudanese women leaders and women's organizations.
- Disseminate information to women's organizations and to the international community.
Qualifications
This position is based in Khartoum, Sudan. It is for an initial one-year term with extensions possible.
- Knowledge of and experience working in Sudan
- Desirable would be experience in the field of peace, security and development, training and capacity building, and gender issues as they relate to peace and security
- Degree in international relations, conflict resolution, or a related field
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Oral and written fluency in English; Arabic language skills desirable
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Experience training diverse audiences
- Ability to prioritize and attend to multiple assignments
- Experience managing people desirable
- Fluency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Internet skills
- Positive attitude and mature judgment
