Are you interested in starting your own business? If yes, the first place to go is the Department of Student Activities. At the University, we try to encourage all types of learning, both inside and outside of the classroom – this includes entrepreneurship. However, students MUST gain approval for all personal income generating activity that uses University property. This authority is given to staff within the Department of Student Activities (as found in Rights and Responsibilities, Section 15).
The staff working with students on commerical enterprises is the Director of Student Activities, Stephanie Grimes. The first step is to meet with the Director. The staff will ask for you to propose your business plan to include:
- Item or service for sale
- Detailed Description of said item or service
- Marketing plan
- Brandeis resources needed for the enterprise
- Other information as needed
In addition, we advise that you review the following sections of the 2009-2010 Rights and Responsibilities, so that you are aware of policies and limitations that might impact the approval processes:
Section 6: Care of
University and Personal Property
Section 10.8: Postings
Section 10.12: Solicitation
in the Halls
Section 13: Use of Campus
Facilities
Section 16: Conduct Affecting the Name and Tax-Exempt
Status of the University
Guidelines Concerning Use of University
Facilities, Name, Seal or Logo
