Alexander Kern

Alex Kern is Brandeis' Protestant chaplain. He is a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

Kern earned a master of divinity degree at Andover Newton Theological School, where he also served as adjunct faculty and staff. He received a bachelor's degree in religious studies, history and African-American studies from Guilford College in North Carolina. He also holds a certificate from the Boston Theological Institute for work focused on reconciliation, ecumenism and restorative justice.

In addition to his work at Brandeis, Kern serves as executive director of Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries. He is also the editor of the anthology, Becoming Fire: Spiritual Writing from Rising Generations. Originally from Washington, D.C., he lives now in Somerville, Mass., with his wife and two children.
