Lucas Malo has been passionately involved in service for almost 20 years and is eager to support, advise and facilitate opportunities locally and globally as an active member of the Brandeis community. He began his Brandeis career in 2005 in the Department of Residence Life and moved to Community Service in spring 2008. Malo holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Saint Michael's College and a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Maine. Beyond Brandeis, he enjoys playing tennis, shopping, traveling and playing board games. Malo invites students to visit his office on the second floor of the Shapiro Campus Center.

Kelly Whiffen joined Brandeis in 2010 as the Department Coordinator of Student Activities and Community Service. Before coming to Brandeis, she worked in several coordinating roles, including Weekly Ad Coordinator and Schedule Coordinator at CS Caremark and Communications Coordinator at Camp West Woods. She also worked with students as a gymnastics coach. Kelly holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Ithaca College, where she was actively involved in campus life as a gymnast for the school's Varsity team, copy editor for the school's newspaper and co-director of a Christian retreat. Outside of Brandeis, Kelly enjoys running, reading and volunteering with her church.

Sarah McLaughlin is the Principal of the Frost Elementary school in Lawrence MA. Last year, Sarah was a Principal at the Dever-McCormack School in Boston. Previously, Sarah was the Director of the Office of School Redesign at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She is a former Teach For America corps member who taught elementary school in Washington DC and later served as a Program Director at a middle school in New York City. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Boston University and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Columbia University.

Petra is a senior from Chicago, Illinois, majoring in Spanish, Anthropology, and Latin American and Latino Studies. She is a coordinator for Hunger and Homelessness, a program that relieves food insecurity and allows students the opportunity to share experiences with the food and housing insecure. She volunteers for Waltham Group’s General Tutoring, is the Development Intern for the Waltham Family School, and loves watching good movies, teaching Pilates, and cutting her friends’ hair. She is thrilled to have a larger role in Waltham Group this year and to work more closely with all its amazing programs.

Sharon Passov is a pre-law senior from Boston, MA majoring in Psychology. In addition to her role in Budget and Steering, she is a coordinator for Language and Cultural Enrichment, a Waltham Group program that tutors and mentors local middle schoolers who are English Language Learners. She loves working with kids and helping them adjust to life in the United States. Also, she is a Research Assistant in the Child and Adolescent Research and Development Lab. She plans on pursuing a career in International Law. Currently, she is working at Greater Boston Legal Services in the Family Law Unit. In her spare time, she loves traveling, learning new languages, watching movies, and ballroom dancing.  She is looking forward to supporting the great work of Waltham Group and helping the Department of Community Service make an impact on the community.

Rachel Weissman is a senior from Wynnewood, Pennsylvania double majoring in Biology and Health: Science, Society and Policy, and double minoring in Chemistry and Sculpture. She became the Waltham Group Blood Drive Coordinator as a freshman at Brandeis, a program which she has been closely involved with since she was 14. She plans on pursuing a job in the non-profit health policy field to advocate for patients, doctors and scientists. In her free time, you will find Rachel on outings with her Little Sis through the Waltham Group Big Sibs Program, working in the sculpture studio or watching scary movies. She is beyond excited to join the Budgeting and Steering team and have the opportunity to work with all of the amazing program coordinators, volunteers, and staff.
